I know that there are many things that we waste money on in this country. I personally have always liked watching fireworks in the past. While watching the news recently I started thinking about the "cost" of putting this type of show on. Our local fireworks show cost around ten thousand dollars! That is probably a low amount compared to some cities. My first thought when hearing this was "what we could do with ten thousand dollars in our ministry".
What I am getting at is that we have people that do not know where they are going to get their next meal. We have people hoping that they can find a good piece of cardboard to sleep on tonight. We have people that need all different type of help!! Yet, we gather with friends and family, look up into the sky and watch money go up in smoke??? Millions of dollars are spent across the country with shows and individuals buying "fireworks". Many families that I know in the past have spent over $100 just for their own "entertainment". I think of the "cost" compared to how many people we could feed with that money. How many sleeping bags and blankets we could buy for those freezing in the winter in Chicago. How many tanks of gas so that we can get where the Lord is leading us to go.
Again fireworks is just what I have thought about because of the time of year. There are many places that we put our money for us to be comfortable or for us to be entertained. As "Christians", I know that Jesus would want us to be taking care of "His needs". His needs are feeding the hungry, giving a drink to the thirsty, and clothing the naked as described in Matthew 25:35. I am not saying this for just our ministry but there are many ministries that are all about taking care of the Father's business. Please think about where you are putting your money and think about helping these ministries to do what the Lord has called them to do.
