As ministers who go into jails, juvenile center and streets of America we’ve seen the destruction that alcohol can do in a persons life. Id even go as far as to say that alcohol is the number one bondage in majority of the homeless people we minister to.
Alcohol destroys homes. It turns young people into hopeless parasites; men into abusers, and women into whores. It destroys the weak and weakens the strong. I heard once that alcohol has killed more people than have all the wars of the world.
It is said alcoholism is a disease but the Bible says it is the result of sin. One doesn't buy a disease by the bottle nor serve it for parties. Sickness will not keep a person out of heaven but alcohol will. I Corinthians 6:10 says "No drunkard shall inherit the kingdom of God". Alcohol is by far the worst drug in the world as far as number of injured and killed is concerned. In this country it is considered to be the number one killer. It kills brain cells that will never be replaced and seriously effects the heart and liver. It temporarily impairs vision, speech and coordination as well as numbing inhibitions and guilt. People spend years and vast sums of money to obtain an education, gain social status, success in a profession or business etc...and yet after a few drinks are reduced to fools with less control over their mind and body than a kindergarten child. And even worse than the statistics concerning adults is the alarming rate at which youth are becoming involved in alcohol use. Of the 100 million regular drinkers 28% of those are youth between the ages of 14 and 18.
A person usually doesn't drink from thirst but rather from emptiness, but God has promised to fill that emptiness. Jeremiah 31:4 says "My people shall be satisfied with my goodness."
If you have struggled with alcohol, don't feel as though God is mad at you. He loves you! He doesn't hate you but the alcohol. He sees the way it is destroying you, and wants to release you from that bondage. Be free today in Jesus name. Declare that you will no longer be ensnared by the devil. God wants you to drink from the well that will never run dry. Jesus said "come unto me all you who thirst and I will give you drink, and you will never thirst again."
